ERNEST COX JR.
PH.D., NCC,CSC,CDTLF

Dr. Ernest Cox Jr. is an education consultant who specializes in school counseling, organizational leadership, and school based mental health.  He also serves as a Director of Counseling and Wellness.  He has 20 years of experience in public, private, independent, and higher education.


He has performed in multiple capacities including Counselor Educator and Supervisor, Director of Counseling, professional school counselor (all levels), and educator.  He has presented at numerous conferences and workshops at the local, state, and national level delivering training to professional school counselors, counselors, and administrators. Additionally, he has served as a task force member who rewrote the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, 5th Edition and was a co-chair for the re-writing of the Texas Evaluation for Professional School Counselors – 3rd Edition Task Force. 

His work focuses on transforming comprehensive school counseling programs and educational systems, utilizing data to enhance and increase direct counseling services to students, and creating campus and district program alignment.  He has organized, evaluated, and supervised counseling departments of all sizes.  He focused on shifting programs from reactive to proactive services.  His departments and teams have gained state and national recognition for the work accomplished. He has vast experience in supervision, fiscal management, and education reform. 

He has served the counseling profession on the Texas School Counselor Association and Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision boards as President elect, President, Past President, Director of Guidance and Counseling at Large, and Vice-President of Counselor Education and Supervision.  His professional recognitions and honors include the:

  • 2020 Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) Counselor Educator of the Year Award.

  • 2019 TCA Professional Writing Award (for publication of the Texas Evaluation Model for Professional School Counselors, 3rd edition).

  • 2018 TSCA Presidential Award (contributions to the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, 5th edition.

  • 2016 Texas Counseling Association (TCA) Dr. Jamesanna Kirven Outstanding Counselor in Texas.

  • 2015 Texas Alamo Region Counseling Association Public Relations Award. 


His professional experience as a school counselor, Director of Guidance and Counseling, and Assistant Professor of School Counseling make him unique in comparison to other consultants. He shares his experiences and stories of what he has found successful. Dr. Cox and the EC Counseling and Wellness team look forward to our future working relationship.
